home alone

Tuesday night at home without my parents, they have always gone on their holidays when i am overseas as well but this time they decided not to wait for me. It speaks volumes about a marriage when a couple still goes on 'honeymoons' after three decades. They weren't always this close of course; fifteen years ago, i would cower in my makeshift tent of foldable mattress and pray to an unknown deity that my Dad would stop shouting. Fast forward to today, and they are on their fourth vacation for this year. Love can be everlasting.

The peace and quiet of an empty house. Granted it is comforting only because i know it is temporal. I dare not think otherwise because as a single child, even though i have learned to enjoy solitude, an affection i carry with me, i am not prepared to live the next decade without Dad and Mum. I want them to admire me as i grow, slowly in my twenties, to the woman they have inculcated their heart and intentions into, and to realise that in due time and grace, their only daughter will be someone they can be proud of.
