closing time

If this is supposed to be the holiday season, why is everyone so tired, stressed and genuinely in need of a holiday?

Often, around this time of the year, i become overwhelmed with the urge to pack up my belongings in a red-spotted handkerchief, tie them to the end of a stick and go walking off into the distance. All by myself. This wanderlust is healthy. It might've be even healthier if i had actually acted on it this year. The yearning to run is invariably accompanied by a vivid reminder of my financial limitations, the responsibilities i just can't abandon and the people i'm leaving behind.

I want to go to Vancouver again to see J and the cherry blossoms, take long walks in Stanley Park and eat chinese food in Richmond. I want to go to Europe, eat fresh green grapes and see the Effiel Tower. I want to go on a Carribean cruise. I want to sit on a spotless stretch of pure white sand fronted by inviting blue water and backed by an eclectic mix of beach bars and snack shacks.

I want to turn over the pages of this year and start a new chapter of my life. With my wonderful God, with a fresh mind, a soft heart and a new spirit.
