the poor widow
Somehow today, i was reminded by the all-too familiar bible verse about the poor widow putting in two copper coins into the treasury. When i think about her, i feel encouraged, for she makes visible the very heart of God.
I always believe this: what matters to God is not how much we give but how deep we had to dig to give it; not the actual value of our contribution to the kingdom, but how much of what we have that we give. This divine principle applies to every aspect of life. If, for instance, we have almost no faith but we give God 90 percent of the little we have, the all-knowing Lord sees this as being more commendable than those who display much greater faith but are actually using only 80 percent of all the faith that they could muster. A person filled with doubts and fears and suppressed anger at God, but still doing the little he or she can to hold on to God, could easily be seen by the Lord as having more faith than someone who can perform great miracles.
If i can only give two copper coins to the Lord, so be it; for i know this is all i have, at the end of the day i have not held anything back in my offering to Him and it is all He wants from us...
