haircut
A bad hair cut can be devastating for a woman. I know this all too well. When i was 14, i lopped off my long hair and ended up looking like an angry little lioness. It took years to grow it out - both the hair and the nicknames. Why do women sheer their lovely locks? That's one of the many differences between us and men. Men cut their hair because they think that it is too long. End of story. I read that some women do it to alienate disappointment in their lives. That when they cut off their hair, they are literally trying to cut their attractiveness away; it is an attempt of defiance, an expression of dissatisfaction or despair, a subtle emotional kick in their gut.
As for me, my reasons are (mostly) split ends or internal turmoil. There may be many things in my environment that i cannot control right now, but the weight of my long hair? That i can control. Afterwards, i don't feel as though my femininity ended up in piles on the salon floor. Instead i feel lighter, more empowered and ready to fight my battles again. No matter how i try to repress my emotions, they will find a way out somehow, which is strangely comforting, even if they manifest themselves in the quiet rebellion of a new haircut.
