christmas party

For a very uplifting experience: Find a quiet place, gather with a group of awesome friends and start singing Christmas carols out loud, without a care or worry. Sit back and feel your inhibitions melt away into the song induced core of happiness.

Guess what?

I actually managed to do that tonight. :)

The Campus Ministry's very own Parents Appreciation Night was a huge success. Never thought it was possible to be so stressed, joyful, tearful and laughing hysterically in one single evening. From a frantic time of wrapping Christmas presents and writing cards at home to a flurry of cooking with Jiaying, Tongwei, Andrew at Ang Dao Ni's place. (It's always very handy to have someone who stays right across church, haha.) Jiaying's homemade mushroom baked rice smelt so nice in the oven that i had to resist the temptation of digging a chunk out for myself!

Much thanks to Vanessa's honey baked ham and sweet sauce, Tongwei's 2kg worth of chicken nuggets, Sera's delicious pasta with cheese, Huixian's pineapple sausages and Victoria's fruit salad for creating these gastronomic memories that i'll cherish always, no matter where our next Christmas dinner will be at. Appreciate all the sharings from Gwen and Choonlim etc for their parents that gave me ugly swollen eyes and a red sniffling nose. Not forgetting all the brothers and sisters who helped to carry (and consume) the food, for leading us in games and carolling, for cleaning up and bringing much joy and laughter to everyone.

It was an unforgettable night, i'm so darn proud to be in the company of such beautiful people. They reminded me of Oscar Wilde's
The Happy Prince - for they are people who pour themselves out for others, people who constantly sacrifice everything they have til they are left with leaden hearts in their hands.

The only sadness that nudged me every now and then during the party was the absence of David. The thought of David lying on the hospital bed with a weak smile can reduce me to tears. Despite everything, he never once uttered a word of complaint and tries his best to stay strong and cheerful.

My dearest friend, i'm praying for you.

Moment of folly: Going to Mustafa Centre during Christmas season!
