more than words
I used to think that i don't blog because i feel down; now i know i feel down because i didn't blog.
I mean it's not just about the publish, i have plenty of saved drafts that will quite unfortunately remain as..saved drafts. But my blog is my gym, and when i don't work out enough, it's eating me inside. Though it's hard to keep myself accountable for what i wrote at times. For what was felt (and therefore chronicled) on a certain time and certain day becomes void after you've sat in Starbucks with a dolce latte and a good friend. Some people have discovered this blog and have made me wish that they hadn't. Yet others have become devoted readers and have given me the kind of affirmation that is so invaluable. The grass is always greener, isn't it? But i admit i don't desire anonymity. I know there are people who start blogs, just for themselves and keep it totally anonymous - sort of your nom de plume. No one needs to know. But c'mon, you DO want it to be known don't you. It's all about the right timing.
This avenue started out with weird intentions, selfish ones in fact. I didn't want people to think that i was some airhead, despite my tendancy to commit really bad mistakes - the ones that people still bring up in conversations years later. When it happens, i fake my laugh but deep down i cringe because the joke is stale, the joke is hurting and the joke's on me. So i started this, because i wanted to show that even clowns have feelings. Even clowns can write. And a year later, everything's worked out fine. Though i've decided to disable comments because i get over 200 daily readers and less than 10% comment. Tsk tsk. Validation is too much of a chore.
So for those aspiring bloggers out there, stick with what you're doing. And write MORE. Because i discovered i understand myself more through the ink that flows from my fingers. I don't read alot of blogs nowadays but for the ones i do, the very thing i'll appreciate about will be their candor. Thanks for being honest, for giving me food for thought. Don't censor yourself for anyone who thinks they know you or is voyeuristic yet bitter.
If you're true to yourself, there is nothing you should be afraid to write...even if it is a 2,500 word expository on how your dog farts when he sleeps. Stay true.
