Of working for a film production company

Go on...ask me anything about the origins of the Cinderella story and the history of ancient soccer in China.

I've been working for Peiling as a research writer in her film production company. Together with CK, their company produces successful local and some international feature films, television dramas, and documentaries, and their recent projects include Jack Neo's Best Bet as well. Peiling's current project is this 3 part series documentary for the Discovery Channel. We are at the stage where ideas get fleshed out into a viable script and this is followed by a step outline i guess.

As i've mentioned, the 2 parts of the documentary were about debunking the general public's belief that the Cinderella story orginates from Walt Disney and tracing back the roots of ancient soccer in China.

The Chinese Cinderella just had to pray to a pile of fish bones to get anything that she wants. Now, i know all the names of ancient soccer in China, Britain, Japan, Greek, Rome, Egypt etc, the events that triggered off each form of soccer in each and every different ancient civilisation, the forms and ways the Chinese played soccer in the Tang, Sung, Ming, Qing dynasties blah blah blah by heart.

This afternoon, CK asked me to be his talent, which is the jargon for anyone appearing on-camera, for another pre-shoot and i had to act as a professional photographer in Singapore. I carried this black sling bag which supposedly carries my equipment i guess, a heavy black camera slung around my neck and walk down the office corridor, taking random shots of anything and basically trying to act pro. Don, i'm such a disgrace! I found the whole process so amusing that i couldn't help smiling and then...CUT! Okok, when you are a professional you don't and cannot grin. I was telling myself in my head, Mari act pro act pro ACT PRO! You are a world-famous photographer..don't...DARNIT...DON'T grin goofily! NO NO NO! MUST. NOT. GRIN. Think dark solemn thoughts! Dead puppies, slaughtered babies and pigs liver soup!

Oh, the student interns and some of the staff were working on another project, a Malay drama serial, for the Jakarta audience and they were doing the pre-shoot in the office this week.

They filmed in the office,
